MATCH REPORT: Truro City 0-2 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 30th September 2023
Due to both sides being knocked out of the FA Cup this match was brought forward from a Tuesday evening in October, and the Bluebirds will consider that a good decision as a goal in each half from skipper Matt McClure saw them return from Bolitho Park, the home of Plymouth Parkway – Truro’s landlords with all three points.
Truro were the first to show with Tyler Harvey seeing his shot blocked by Will Henry and new signing Matt Buse’s effort from the rebound was also blocked.
The Bluebirds opened the scoring on thirteen minutes as a superb team move ended with Matt McClure firing past James Hamon.
Seven minutes later the lively Harvey had another shot blocked and his follow-up effort went wide.
Midway through the half Ed Palmer’s through ball found Adam Porter whose shot was also blocked.
James Melhado then crossed to Harvey who fired over the bar.
Just past the half hour Hamon came to the Cornish side’s aid as he prevented the Bluebirds from doubling their lead.
Before the break Rocky Neal and Harvey combined to find Connor Riley-Lowe who went down in the area but penalty appeals were waved away.
Four minutes into the second half saw Neal find Buse who dragged his effort wide.
Two minutes later another Buse effort was deflected behind for a corner.
On fifty four minutes Truro brought on Harvey Greenslade who spent time at Chippenham last season on loan from Bristol Rovers.
On the hour mark Will Dean found Harvey whose shot on the turn was off target.
Three minutes later another effort from Harvey was turned behind by Henry.
The Bluebirds doubled their lead midway through the second half as McClure netted his second again following some slick passing.
On sixty nine minutes Greenslade’s shot went straight at Henry whilst in stoppage time the same player saw his near post headed effort saved by Henry.
