MATCH REPORT: Welling United 0-4 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 2nd November 2024

Published: at 12:31pm

Having failed to score in the opening quarter of an hour in their first fourteen league games of this season, the Bluebirds put the record straight with three goals inside the opening fourteen minutes as they recorded their biggest National South win of the season to date.

Leone Gravata got the ball rolling on nine minutes as he chipped over Wings debutant keeper Jordan Gillmore following good build-up play from Tom Owen-Evans and Harry Parsons.

Two minutes later Owen-Evans played a superb ball to Parsons who curled home from eight yards out.

On fourteen minutes the Bluebirds hit their third goal within five minutes as Gravata found Owen-Evans who rounded Gillmore to place the ball into an empty net.

The remainder of the half largely went in favour of Welling but they were unable to penetrate the Bluebirds defence.

Just past the half hour a shot hit Freddie Grant’s arm but Martell Taylor-Crossdale’s free kick from a central position was tipped away by Will Henry.

Parsons then attempted to catch Gillmore off his line but his shot from distance was off-target.

Just before the interval Grant’s headed effort from a Luke Spokes free kick was held by Gillmore.

HALF TIME: Welling United 0-3 Chippenham Town

Four minutes into the second half Welling unsuccessfully appealed for a penalty whilst a free kick was blocked by Henry.

On sixty six minutes Taylor-Crossdale’s shot from distance went narrowly wide of a post.

A minute later Parsons went one on one with the keeper but defender Max Statham made a timely interception.

Wings’ substitute Elliot Long saw his long range shot blocked by the Bluebirds defence.

Welling went close on seventy seven minutes as Chiori Johnson’s shot was cleared off the line.

The Bluebirds hit their fourth four minutes later when a fine counter attack ended with substitute Matt McClure finding Owen-Evans who fittingly notched his second.
