MATCH REPORT: Weymouth 1-1 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 23rd September 2023

Published: at 12:31pm

The Bluebirds came back from Dorset with a well-deserved point although may feel disappointed that they allowed ten man Weymouth to come back to draw, but if it wasn’t for a superb eighty sixth minute penalty save from Will Henry they may have ended pointless.

The early exchanges saw Alex Bray with a couple of chances including a strong appeal for a penalty when he appeared to be fouled in the area.

Weymouth came into the game on ten minutes when Enzio Touray headed wide from a cross and Harvey Slade shot wide.

Ben Thomson then shot high and wide for the hosts whilst Jake Evans saw an effort blocked.

Chippenham took the lead on thirty five minutes when Freddie Grant found Matt McClure who twisted and turned in the area before being brought down by Calvin Brooks, the skipper dusted himself down to convert the resultant penalty himself.

Before the break a Teddy Howe corner saw the ball find its way back to him and he shot wide.

A Terras free kick was then headed wide by Jordan Thompson whilst at the other end the last action of the half saw Caine Bradbury’s shot blocked by a home defender whilst Weymouth broke from a Chippenham corner but the final shot went straight at Henry.

After the interval Olumide Durojaiye’s shot was blocked.

On fifty three minutes Weymouth were reduced to ten men when Jordan Thompson saw red when he fouled Bray who would otherwise have been through on goal.

Three minutes later an effort from Bray hit the side netting. Weymouth equalized on sixty one minutes after good work from Tom Bearwish allowed Touray to fire home.

Bray then saw a shot saved whilst Evans shot wide.

An Evans corner found its way to Bradbury whose shot landed on the top of the net, whilst another effort from Evans went straight at keeper Gerard Benfield.

The home side were awarded a penalty on eighty five minutes when Evans was harshly adjudged to have fouled Brooks but Henry superbly saved Touray’s effort.

On eighty nine minutes a free kick from Bearwish was narrowly off target and two minutes later Evans’ stoppage time free kick also just missed the mark.
