Poffley signs multi-year deal
Young defender has had a breakthrough start to the season
Chippenham Town are delighted to announce that defender Jac Poffley has signed a multi-year deal with the First Team.
Jac joined the Academy at the beginning of the 2022/23 season having finished his youth Football at Evans & Williams in Llanelli as well as having involvement with one of Cardiff City’s regional talent centres.
Jac quickly established himself in a formidable back 3 alongside fellow graduate Dan Ellison, helping the Academies U19 win the National Youth Football League’s League & Cup double.
Pre season involvement with the first team before the start of the 2023/24 season then followed for Jac before starting his senior Football journey with duel registrations at Welton Rovers and Paulton Rovers in the Southern League. Jac was also a starter in the clubs Wiltshire Premier Shield Cup success at The County Ground alongside many other Academy talents.
This season, after completing another pre season with the first team squad, dual registration moves to Paulton Rovers and Frome Town further aided his development before made his National League South debut, coming on as a 75th minute substitute for Aaron Amadi-Holloway in the clubs away fixture at Farnborough. Further composed performances followed in the A4 derby at Christmas and in an early substitute appearance against Aveley.
On signing his new deal, Jac had this to say:
I’m really proud to sign my contact; it’s something I’ve been aiming towards for months, years now. It’s a great feeling, and I’m now just really looking forward to continuing my progress, working hard and going well with the team
Upon Jac signing, Academy Manager and First-Team Coach Joe Sharples said:
Congratulations to Jac on his deal with the club, its something thats well deserved for all of his consistent work since being with us,
We could see the potential in Jac from day 1, he had the basic physical ingredients for the position, so it was a case of improving his quality and training habits, which is something you only learn about once players are in the programme with you,
He’s still got a lot of physical development to go but is in a good place and working hard on improving that. The most important bit is he is a really good defender – both on the ground and aerially, which for an 18 year old is really impressive – he has natural timing and awareness of where danger might happen.
Where Jac has really won us over has been his consistency while with us, he’s lived away from home for over 2 years and has rarely dropped the ball with time keeping, organisation, freshness and his application on a daily basis – thats a huge credit to his family and to him for his self discipline and hard work
Congratulations Jac!
