Supporting The Ben Saunders Foundation – Wembley Legends Return

Recently, Chippenham Town Football Club announced a Commercial Partnership with the Ben Saunders Foundation. Their new pitch side board takes pride of place in the top corner of the The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium at the Sheldon End. 

For those who are unaware, the Ben Saunders Foundation is a charity supporting teenagers and young adults with cancer as they fight the hardest battle in their young lives. The BSF was named as such for Ben Saunders, a fantastic young man who tragically lost his battle with cancer and the Foundation is his legacy to help continue his and many others fight against the injustice of teenage cancer. 

Ben is the son of former Chippenham Town legend Tommy Saunders. Tommy took over at CTFC in 1998 and oversaw a significant period in the clubs history taking them from the Western League to the Southern Premier Division and most notably, finishing as runners up in the FA Vase at Wembley Stadium with over 13,000 Chippenham Town supporters flocking to the home of football to support their hometown team. 

Our fixture against Bristol City marks a special occasion for the club, playing against the club Ben held a season ticket at for 10 seasons, with a lot of former CTFC involvement from Tommy’s time at the club now involved with the Robins coaching staff. 

We have invited Tommy, his family and players from Tommy’s incredible Vase team of yesteryear to join us for the game against Bristol City to take some photos with the foundation board, enjoy the game and have a good natter with supporters old and new about the fantastic times they shared as a team, as a club and the brilliant work being done by the foundation to help combat the horrendous circumstances caused by a diagnosis of cancer at a young age. 

I would urge all supporters to come on down, get involved with this fantastic charity and support it as it now supports Chippenham Town FC and enjoy the nostalgia of a chat and drink in our brand new Bluebirds Bar with some of the heroes that helped paved the way for our current success! 

As a club, I am sure we will unite behind this and show that Chippenham Town, when it’s at its best, is the most wonderful place for football, for friendship and for support.
