Welcoming Barrie Fulker back to #TheTSStadium
Welling Utd and Chippenham Town came together to welcome back Barrie Fulker, celebrating his legacy in football amidst his battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Before the game, both clubs made a presentation to Barrie Fulker. Barrie has past associations with Welling Utd and Chippenham Town. Sadly, Barrie has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and his wife, Jill, recently asked both clubs to support her in making this a special day for her husband. We were delighted to do so.
In his younger days, Barrie played for Welling Utd and is very proud he did so.
More recently, Barrie had a lot of success with Chippenham Town, running the under-18s team for many years, with the likes of Charlie Griffin in the team. He went on to become Director of Football at Chippenham under Malcolm Lyus’s Chairmanship. Barrie had a great rapport with players, management, and fans alike and was instrumental in forming the team that played in the FA Vase in May 2000. Some of his ex-footballing colleagues were amongst many of his friends who were there, and those of you who have supported Chippenham Town over the years may recognize some of the faces.
We shouldn’t let the moment go by without a mention of two other family members. Barrie’s wife, Jill, who perhaps provided the most important roles in support of the club—washing the kit and making the bacon rolls—which we’re sure were massively appreciated. We’d also like to mention their grandson, Harold, who was amongst the children having a kickabout on the pitch at half-time.
On behalf of both Welling Utd and Chippenham Town, we hope everyone had a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
