MATCH REPORT: Chesham United 2-1 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 1st November
We are defeated despite a dominant performance.
We fell to a narrow 2–1 defeat at home to Chesham United, with a late goal denying the Bluebirds any points despite a dominant performance in Buckinghamshire.
Chesham scored after just six as Zak Joseph’s cross flew into the top corner.
The Bluebirds almost hit back immediately as Olaf Koszela’s header forced a good save from the home sides’ goalkeeper. Moments later, Caine Bradbury teed up Vaughan inside the area, but once again the Chesham ‘keeper was equal to it.
As the first half went on, Chippenham continued to grow into the game. Canice Carroll saw a close-range effort saved following a dangerous Bradbury corner, while Tom Mehew and Jake Evans linked play well in midfield to keep the pressure on. At the other end, Will Henry remained largely untested, gathering comfortably when called upon as the visitors offered little threat beyond their early goal.
Half-time: Chesham United 2-1 Chippenham Town.
A half time change saw Sol Wanjau-Smith on for Henry Sady, and he immediately injected energy into the attack!
We netted the equaliser just before the hour mark Koszela finishing calmly following a good run from Wanjau-Smith and Mehew bringing the Bluebirds deservedly level and lift the away support.
Chippenham continued to pile on the pressure, and were unlucky not to take the lead soon after when Wanjau-Smith saw two efforts brilliantly denied by the Chesham goalkeeper in quick succession. We maintained attacking momentum with further changes, as Harry Parsons and Ezio Touray joined the action to push for a winner.
However, against the run of play, Chesham struck late on to regain their advantage, Mitchell Weiss netting Chesham’s only touch inside of the penalty area in the second-half.
As we reached injury time Carrol came within inches of levelling, a thunderous strike just over the bar.
The biggest chance came within the final seconds, at the same time as the heavens opened. The ball fell to the feet of Parsons before the ball held up on the pitch as he struck, with the ball falling into the grasp of the Chesham shot-stopper, who was awarded man of the match for his efforts.
It was another spirited showing from Chippenham, who created several clear-cut chances and displayed strong character to battle back into the game. On another day, the outcome might have been very different .
