MATCH REPORT: Eastbourne Borough 2-2 Chippenham Town | National League South | Tuesday 11th November
We grab our first point of the season away from home with a final moment equaliser from Caine Bradbury
CTFC started the brighter side, with Colwell and Tom Owen-Evans causing issues for the Eastbourne Borough left flank and forcing a couple of corner kicks.
The first real opening came on 24 minutes as the host, via Kai Corbett, attacked down the left. The wingers close play and shot from a narrow angle went just wide of Will Henry’s goal.
On minute 45 Canice Carroll produced an excellent last ditch block to deny Josh Anifowose a certain goal.
The third of four added minutes in the first half proved enough for Eastbourne to open the scoring. Despite a good save low to Will Henry’s left, Anifowose was on hand to tap in the rebound from close range.
Half-time: Eastbourne Borough 1-0 Chippenham Town
Chippenham came flying out of the traps in the second half, with pressure on Eastbourne’s penalty box.
Will King won a free kick from a crossing position on the Bluebirds attacking left, which Henry Sady delivered into the area. Eastbourne’s goalkeeper Ryan Sandford dropped the ball right in the path of Carroll who nodded in from close range, earning his first for the club.
Just moments later, thanks to a long kick from Will Henry, CTFC debutant Anointed Chukwu, signed on loan from Worthing this week, had a shot saved from close range.
On 57 minutes Eastbourne were given a soft free kick on the edge of the area, which was fired into the wall, and deflected into a defender’s arm with a penalty given. Corbett dispatched the penalty, to give the hosts the lead once more.
Substitutes were called upon with Ezio Touray, Ethan Vaughan and Caine Bradbury all entering action.
As the match approached stoppage time, we brought together our best move of the match. Reece Fleet and Tom Mehew passed around defenders and Tom Owen-Evans smashed a cross into the penalty area. It narrowly missed the boot of Chukwu, who was unaware of the speed of the cross, before falling at the feet of Vaughan who fired over the crossbar.
Due to Eastbourne’s management of the clock, in the seventh of initially six added minutes, Touray won a free kick on the left, in almost an identical place to our first equaliser.
Caine Bradbury swung the freekick in, and after narrowly missing the attacking header of goalkeeper Will Henry, after a bounce it landed in the corner of the net and broke Eastbourne hearts.
