Published: at 3:00pm

Kicking off our countdown to the Chippenham Town Legends XI vs Manchester United Legends XI fixture on the 27th of March. We meet the legends of Chippenham Town for a more in depth look into their career, achievements and involvement with the club over the years as they prepare to return to the pitch!

Born in 1968 in Chippenham, Adie returns to where it all began to take on the Manchester United Legends at a ground he has called home many times, in many capacities over the years. Starting his career at Melksham, Mings moved to the Bluebirds for a brief first spell before a move to Bath City began his propulsion up the non-League pyramid.

Signing for Leroy Rosenior at Gloucester in 1996 for a huge fee at the time of £8,500. A big presence and a nightmare for defenders in his day, Adie had spells as a target man style striker for FGR and Basingstoke on leaving the Tigers. He arrived back at Chippenham helping us acheive promotion in the 2002 season to the Southern Premier League.

Adie then took a reduced playing role with the Blues and stepped up to be Assistant Manager to Tommy Saunders before the latter left the club and Adie followed. A loan spell back at Gloucester and a quick stop in Weston Super Mare kept the Chippenham man busy until his return to CTFC in 2007 to take the position of first team manager. Adie guided Chippenham to the playoffs of the Southern Premier League in his time with the Blues. Adie swapped the dugout for the stands in 2012 when he left Chippenham for the bright lights of London to take on a role as a Scout within the Chelsea FC set up.

Ironic Adie is now responsible for spotting the future talent of the game as it will be known to many and speculated by the few that don’t know Adie is the father of former Bluebirds defender and current Aston Villa and England International, Tyrone Mings.

A proud footballer, manager and father. Adie will be looking forward to rolling back the years and taking on the former greats of Manchester United FC and will be another one that no doubt will be a character on the day and have many a story in the bar to share with the Chippenham supporters after the match!
