MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 1-1 (2-4 pens) Royal Wootton Bassett Town | Wiltshire Premier Shield | Tuesday 27th November 2024
The Bluebirds lost their second match in consecutive days as they went down to Hellenic League Premier side Royal Wootton Bassett Town. Chippenham, the current holders, fielded mainly an academy side with the only experienced first team players being Jake Evans, returning from a long injury lay-off, Lewis Colwell and Caine Bradbury.
The match started really well for the home side as Evans and Pele Kousseoui combined to give Mal Nicholls a fifth minute tap in.
Debutant keeper James Smallcombe then did well to block a shot from Evans whilst on eight minutes another shot from Evans was blocked by a defender.
On twenty minutes Pele saw his shot deflected behind.
Midway through the half Royal Wootton Bassett’s first effort on goal saw Tommy Ouldridge’s shot deflected behind.
The equalizer came on twenty four minutes when Ouldridge converted a corner.
A minute later Bailey Gallagher shot wide.
Either side of the half hour Harley Vozza’s shot deflected off a defender into the arms of Smallcombe whilst a shot from Pele was blocked.
Just before the break Vozza’s shot was blocked on the line.

After the break Alex Avenell saved a headed effort whilst a smart spin from Darren McAlastair set Pele free but from a good position he shot straight at the keeper.
On the hour mark a Bassett free kick ended with Brad Pagliaroli shooting wide whilst at the other end Nichols shot was saved as was an effort from Bradbury.
A Bassett header then just went over the bar whilst Nichols found Pele whose shot from outside the area was just off target.
A good run from Pagliaroli ended with him snatching his shot wide.
A quarter of an hour from time Avenell did well to get down to a low shot as the game drifted to penalties.
Bradbury and McAlastair both scored for the Bluebirds before Nichols’ effort hit the bar and Vozza’s was saved.
