MATCH REPORT: Havant & Waterlooville 1-1 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 15th April 2023
A goal deep into stoppage time as skipper Spencer Hamilton lay injured saw this game finish all square as both sides had chances to win the three points.
Chippenham took the lead on seven minutes when Joe Parker crossed for Matt McClure to tap home from close range.
Four minutes later Alex Bray found Ed Williams whose shot was saved by on-loan Chelsea keeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe and the ball eventually fell to Luke Russe whose goalbound shot was blocked by Sam Magri.
On thirteen minutes a Havant corner was headed wide by Jake McCarthy.
A minute later Hamilton blocked a shot from Mo Faal.
On eighteen minutes a foul by Hamilton on the edge of the area saw Jack Jebb’s free kick well-saved by James Walker who was making his league debut for the Bluebirds between the sticks replacing the unavailable Will Henry.
Midway through the half a Chippenham throw found its way to Russe but he shot wide.
On twenty five minutes Callum Kealy’s shot was blocked by Will Richards.
The Bluebirds then had two fruitless corners whilst on thirty one minutes Parker’s shot went wide.
On thirty three minutes good work from Alex Bray ended with McClure shooting wide.
Six minutes later a Jebb free kick found Danny Wright who headed over.
Before the break Wright was presented with two good chances but failed with both.
HALF TIME: Havant & Waterlooville 0-1 Chippenham Town
Five minutes into the second half Bray appeared to be fouled in the area by the keeper but referee Mr. Claussen thought otherwise.
On fifty six minutes Walker again did well to keep out a shot from James Roberts.
On the hour mark McCarthy fired over for the hosts.
On sixty three minutes substitute Craig Fasanmade rounded Sharman-Lowe but he was too wide to take advantage.
Two minutes later the Hawks stopper made a good diving save to deny Bray.
Williams’ shot then lacked the power to beat the Havant keeper.
Roberts was then denied by Walker who used his boot to block an effort.
Jebb’s cross then found Wright who headed wide.
On seventy eight minutes Wright’s effort was blocked and Jebb’s shot was blocked on the line by substitute Joe Hanks.
Three minutes later Walker kept out a long-range shot from McCarthy.
A point blank shot from Bray was then blocked by Sharman-Lowe and Hanks failed with his follow-up effort.
At the other end Walker saved a headed effort from Wright whilst McCarthy’s scissors kick went high.
Three minutes from time a harsh free kick to Havant saw substitute Charlie Russ’ effort superbly tipped on to the post by Walker and Wright hit the loose ball over.
At the other end Fasanmade intercepted the ball and Magri cleared off the line.
In the third minute of stoppage time a forty yard effort from Fasanmade looped over the keeper but went just wide. In the fifth minute of stoppage time the referee allowed play to continue with Hamilton down injured and Havant Ruff’s shot deflected off a Bluebird defender for the equalizer.
